Leaders Training Retreat

February 10-16, 2020

Costa Rica

Join Caroline Williams and Kelly McLellan for The Abbey’s first training retreat designed exclusively for yoga teachers!

If we had to guess, you decided to become a yoga teacher because you found meaningful healing and connection on your yoga mat and you wanted to facilitate that kind of healing for others. You took the leap, made the investment of time and money, and were stretched physically, emotionally, and spiritually over your 200 hours of training.

But were you given a blueprint to sequence your classes and facilitate a sacred embodied experience for your students?

A blueprint…

is precise and objective.

establishes the pattern from which you can confidently build a stable structure.

In the beginning was logos…and the logos was made flesh and dwelt among us (John 1:1,14)

Logos is a Greek word that means “word” or “blueprint.”

We see two blueprints for how to approach the presence of God in the Bible: the Tabernacle in the Old Testament and Jesus the Messiah in the New Testament.

The Tabernacle blueprint for approaching God was not merely an intellectual exercise people completed, but a very physical one. It shows us how to approach God, through Jesus, in our own inner sanctuaries. As such, the Tabernacle is an excellent map for our own embodiment work on our yoga mats.

Using the blueprint of the Tabernacle, the wisdom of yoga theories on energy and chakras, and the science of the body+mind connection, you will learn a deeply embodied template for sequencing yoga classes on this training retreat. This embodied blueprint will allow you to guide your students into an awareness of where they are now, where they want to go, and how to get there on the yoga mat.

This training qualifies for 25 continuing education credits with Yoga Alliance (20 contact hours + 5 non-contact hours).

Sample Daily Schedule

7:30-9am: Yoga + Meditation
Led by Caroline or Kelly, this morning practice will help you embody the theory we’ll be digging into later in the day.

9-10am: Breakfast

Local coffee, fruit, and a protein-packed spread.

10am-12pm: Morning Training Session

We’ll dive into chakra theory and Bible study, working our way through the seven main chakras and the Tabernacle. This time will include lecture and discussion led by Caroline and Kelly.

12-1pm: Lunch

1-4pm: Rest + Refresh

Take some time to integrate all you’ve learned and rest in the beauty of God’s creation each afternoon. You can stay on site and lie in a hammock, enjoy a massage, or go for a hike on the property or jump in a car and head down the mountain for some beach time.

4:30-6pm: Afternoon Training Session

This is our time to be really hands-on and get the material in our bodies and on our lips. We’ll explore alignment, adjustments and assists, and everyone will get the chance to practice teach so the blueprint becomes personal and familiar.

6:30pm: Dinner

About Refugio Solté, our home for the week…

Refugio Solte.JPG

Refugio Solté is a sacred place where heaven and the jungle collide. Nestled on the side of a rainforest mountain, with breathtaking views of the Pacific Ocean, you feel as though you’re sweetly held in the palm of God’s hands. Located near Uvita, this sanctuary was built as a place of rest, renewal and training for current and emerging leaders of God’s kingdom – you and me. Please keep in mind this is not a resort, but a retreat facility that operates 100% “Off Grid”. Water is drawn from a natural spring high in the mountains, and electricity is produced via solar panels. If you are looking for a JW Marriott with lightning fast internet, central AC and the ability to blow-dry your hair every morning, this is not the place. If you appreciate wild beauty, exotic plants, birds, and animals, barefoot adventures, falling asleep to the sounds of the jungle, and going “off grid” for a week yourself, then this retreat is PERFECT for you!

Kelly McLellan (E-RYT 200) has been practicing yoga for over 20 years and teaching for 15 of those. She attended the University of Florida where she studied psychology and the mind-body connection. She went on to receive a Masters in Health Science Education specializing in holistic health.

Kelly is the owner of Getting Still Studios, a faculty member at Montreat College, and a teacher trainer with YogaFaith where she teaches classes that blend the ancient practice of classical yoga with sacred Christian scriptures.

Her primary focus in teaching yoga is to help her students “remember what they have forgotten”, reacquainting them with their bodies and helping her students to recognize themselves as temples of the Holy Spirit. She teaches with a sensitive spirit and an open heart, intuitively crafting both secular and Christ-based classes for groups and individuals. She combines her knowledge of psychology, anatomy/ physiology, and philosophy into classes that invite her students to “get still” offering them a moment of repose for reflection on eternal things.
