April 2020 | The Cross

Friend, this year in The Abbey we are studying Sacred Spaces – physical, mundane, everyday spaces made holy by God’s presence. This month we turn our gaze to The Cross as a Sacred Space and, in doing so, we contemplate this radical idea that suffering can indeed be holy ground.

Even though Jesus knew the cross was before him, his crucifixion came as an absolute shock to his friends and family. We marvel at how quickly things have changed over just the last month but one week before the crowds cried out to Pilate to “crucify him” they were carpeting the street with palm branches and declaring Jesus the Messiah.
