February 2020 | The Wilderness

The Gospel writers tell us that after Jesus comes up out of the water and the voice of God declares his identity (Beloved, bringer of delight), God’s Spirit leads Jesus into the wilderness.

By definition, the wilderness is desolate, isolating, and depriving. Where is the holy in this barren ground? What does it say about God and our journeys if we don’t accidentally stumble into a wilderness season but are intentionally led there?
